Edward Albert Fitz Roy was born on 7 February 1840, and was commissioned into the Royal Artillery on 19 June 1860. He served in the Abyssinian Expedition 1867-68 and was present at the fall of Magdala (Medal). He retired on 1 October 1892, having been promoted Lieutenant-Colonel in October 1887.
