Sidney Harold Norley, Acting Chief Stoker, was killed in action on 22 September 1914, when H.M.S. Aboukir was torpedoed and sunk in the North Sea. H.M.S. Cressey and H.M.S. Hogue were also sunk in this same action, the total loss of life in this triple disaster amounting to more than 1400 officers and men.
