Kenneth Mackessack was born in 1902, son of George Ross Mackessack, of Elgin. He was educated at Rugby and joined the Seaforth Highlanders, from Sandhurst, in 1923. He served in India, North West Frontier 1930-31, Palestine, Middle East and North Africa, commanding the 2nd Battalion, Seaforth Highlanders, at the battle of El Alamein, being wounded and mentioned in despatches London Gazette 1 January 1944. He was Military Attaché in Washington 1943-46 and retired in 1948 as Hon. Lieutenant-Colonel; Chairman, Moray T.A. Association, 1953-62; Deputy Lieutenant for Morayshire 1954, and Vice-Lieut. 1964.
