A rare Great War M.C. group of three awarded to the Reverend E. H. Beattie, father of Captain S. H. Beattie, R.N., who won the Victoria Cross in the raid on St Nazaire in 1942

Sold with a photocopy portrait of Rev. Beattie and two copy obituaries from which the following is extracted: ‘He was awarded the M.C. in 1918 for For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty as Chaplain to the 140th Infantry Brigade. In 1921 he was appointed Chaplain to the Herefordshire Regiment and was subsequently appointed senior chaplain to the 53rd Welsh Division, of which the Herefords formed part, and senior chaplain to the Western command. He was holding the rank of Lt.-Col. when he was placed on the reserve of officers.’
