Robert McGilligan was born at Calder, county Nairn, and enlisted for the 71st Foot at Newry, county Down, on 12 August 1800, aged 24. He had previously served since 12 August 1798 in the Ross and Cromarty Fencibles. He was promoted to Corporal in 1811 and discharged in France on 18th April 1817, being “Old and Stiff, and Supernumerary to the Establishment of the Regiment.” Sold with copy discharge papers.
