India General Service 1854-95, 1 clasp, Pegu (Ed. Williams, Ships Corpl. “Winchester”) nearly extremely fine £120-140

Edward Williams was born in July 1817 at Ryde, Isle of Wight, and entered the Royal Navy in October 1837 aboard the Wasp. This ship took part in the bombardment of Acre in November 1840, where, presumably Williams was wounded as he was discharged to hospital at Malta on 9 January 1841, suffering from gun shot wounds. His name does not, however, appear on the roll for the Syria medal. He joined Winchester in April 1852 as Coxswain of the Pinnace, and served aboard her during the Burmese War as Ship’s Corporal. He was finally discharged to pension in August 1862. Sold with further research.
