Private Thomas Swain was wounded at the battle of Ulundi on 4 July 1879 by a gunshot to his lower right jaw. He was born at Belfast and enlisted for the 13th Foot on 4 September 1874, being discharged in consequence of his wound on 8 June 1880. Sold with further details mainly concerning his subsequent applications for pension.
