Francis Roberts joined the Royal Navy as Navigation Sub-Lieutenant on 15 July 1871. He became Lieutenant in July 1878, Staff Commander in April 1898, and Staff Captain in February 1904. He retired on 28 may 1907, and died on 9 May 1915.
