6th Bengal European Regiment, an extremely rare officer’s 1856 pattern tunic to this post Mutiny Emergency raised regiment, the single breasted ‘Indian brick-red’ tunic has white facings and is complete with a Captain’s collar rank insignia and single cord shoulder strap, very fine large gilt buttons to the front, slashed cuff and lace panels bear the crown over ‘6’ with ‘bengal european regiment’ in surround, original quilted lining, tunic has overall fading and some minor tears variably repaired, one button missing on the front and one to the late 12th Bengal NI fitted at the time of manufacture on a tail panel £350-450

The 4th, 5th, and 6th Bengal European Regiments were raised in early 1858 and disbanded variously 1860/61, the personnel being drafted in the main to the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Bengal European Regiments.
