R.W. Wood’s rare M.S.M. would have been announced in Defence Council Instructions rather than The London Gazette. His service number would suggest that 1976 was the probable year of award, namely 27 years after his enlistment.

H.M.S.
Daedalus, the Royal Naval Air Station at Lee-on-Solent, Hampshire, which was commissioned in May 1939.

H.M.S.
Fulmar, the Royal Naval Air Station at Lossimouth, Morayshire, which was commissioned in July 1946 and closed in September 1972.
