David George De Lange was born in East London in November 1917 and enlisted in the Union Defence Force from the Reserve in June 1940. Initially posted as a driver to the 6th Motorised Transport Company, he transferred to the 5th M.T.C. later that year and went on to see active service in the East African theatre of war between August 1940 and November 1941, including the operations in British and Italian Somaliland. He was then posted to Egypt, where he served between late 1941 and September 1943, when he returned home to South Africa for attachment to the Demobilisation Corps. De Lange was discharged in October 1946; sold with copied service record.
