Caracalla (198-217), Caracalla (198-217), Denarii (2), as Caesar, reverse marti vltori Mars advancing left (RIC 11; S 1892), and as Augustus, reverse concordia felix, Caracalla & Plautilla standing clasping hands (RIC 124; C 23). Scarce, very fine to extremely fine (£60-80)
The latter coin was struck to commemorate the ill-fated Plautilla’s wedding to Caracalla in 202 AD. Three years later she was banished to a small island and perished in the blood-bath at the time of Geta, her brother-in-law; murdered by her husband.
