Victoria (1837-1901), Victoria, Golden Jubilee, 1887, bronze medal by Anton Scharf, Corporation of of the City of London Series, heads of the young and older Victoria conjoined l., reverse Britannia in triumphal car drawn by two lions, Justice and Wisdom either side, 77mm, in case of issue (BHM 3284). About as struck (£70-80)

The only ‘English’ medal by this celebrated and prolific Austrian medallist the cataloguer is aware of. Forrer describes his portraits as “vigorous” and showing a “rare truthfulness and appreciation.” Certainly the portrait of the elderly Victoria on the present medal is full of character and not in the least idealised.
