I.D.S.M. G.G.O. 586 of 28 June 1907. This reward was one of the first made after its institution, announced on the same date; there were 48 Indian Distinguished Service Medals awarded on this occasion. A total of 142 awards were made during the reign of Edward VII.
Havildar Ram Singh took part in the Tibet expedition in 1904 with the 23rd Sikh Pioneers and 1st Mounted Infantry. He was mentioned in the despatch of Brigadier-General J. R. L. Macdonald, C.B., for his services, which was published in the London Gazette of 13 December 1904. He was subsequently awarded the I.D.S.M. on 28 June 1907 for like services. In the Indian Army List of July 1914, Havildar Ram Singh is shown as a member of the Pension Establishment.
