George Longmore was appointed an Ensign in July 1809 and advanced to Lieutenant in October 1811. His subsequent services with the Royal Staff Corps at Badajoz, Nivelle, Nive, Orthes and Toulouse gained for him the only Military General Service Medal with this clasp combination to the unit, one of 14 awards to Officers. He was placed on half-pay as a Major in April 1831.
