Military General Service 1793-1814, 5 clasps, Corunna, Vittoria, Pyrenees, Nive, Orthes (G. Gilchrist, Corpl., 50th Foot) slight edge bruise to reverse, good very fine £800-1000

Corporal George Gilchrist was born in abourt 1780 in the Parish of Lought in Sutherlandshire, Scotland. Having served in the Ross and Cromarty Fencibles, 1799-1802, he enlisted into the 50th Foot on 24.3.1803. He served with the regiment for 23 years, being discharged in 1826 as a ‘consequence of being deemed unfit for service.’ - this possibly due to the amputation of his right forefinger. Sold with copied service papers and research.
