Richard Anthony Hodge was born on 1 November 1925, and educated at Repton. He was commissioned into the Rifle Brigade on 8 December 1944, and served with the 9th Battalion 1944-45, the 1st Battalion in Germany 1945-46, and 1st & 2nd Battalions K.R.R.C. 1946-48. He was Staff Lieutenant in Port Said in 1948 and then transferred to the Middlesex Regiment with whom he served in Korea.
