Archibald Leslie Gibson, who was born in September 1877, was educated at Winchester College, which establishment he represented at Lords on several occasions between 1894-96. Then following a year or two in Russia, he became a tea planter in Ceylon, and served for many years in the local Rifle Corps. Gibson served as a 2nd Lieutenant in the 11th Battalion, Rifle Brigade between 1916-19.
