Crimea 1854-56, 1 clasp, Sebastopol (Gr. & Dr., 6th Batn. Rl. Arty.), officially impressed naming; Indian Mutiny 1857-59, no clasp (Gunr., V. Fld. Baty. No. 1 Cpy. 6th Bn. R.A.); Army L.S. & G.C., V.R., small letter reverse (2431 Gunner, 22nd Bde. R.A.); Turkish Crimea 1855, Sardinian issue, unnamed, contact wear and edge bruising, otherwise generally good fine or better (4) £300-350

John Fox was born in Kilkenny, Ireland and enlisted in the Royal Artillery at Dublin in February 1854, aged 20 years. Posted to 6th Battalion, R.A. in January 1855, he served in the Sebastopol operations in the Crimea and was seconded for service in V Field Battery, No. 1 Company, 6th Battalion, R.A. during the Indian Mutiny. The Battery, commanded by Captain and Brevet Major J. Singleton, was responsible for putting down a belated outbreak of mutiny at Mooltan in September 1858 - see previous Lot for further details. Fox was discharged at Alderney in July 1875, aged 41 years.
