Sold with Admiralty condolence slip named to Alfred Gordon Hawkins.
Shipwright 3rd Class A. G. Hawkins was killed in action, 25.11.1941, aged 26 years, whilst serving aboard the battleship H.M.S. Barham. The ship was hit by four submarine-launched torpedoes off the coast of Egypt. Within 5 minutes of being hit, the ship rolled over on to her side and then blew up. 300 of her compliment were saved, 848 officers and other ranks lost their lives.
