John Henderson was born in Wigan, Lancashire. A Stoker by occupation, living in Taylorstown, Glamorgan, he enlisted into the Royal Monmouthshire Engineer Militia at Pontypridd on 4 April 1898, aged 22 years. With copied service details on paper and C.D.
