James Graham Goodenough (1830-75), b. Stoke Hill, Guildford, served in the Second China War and was present at the capture of Canton in 1857. He was serving as C-in-C Australia Station on HMS Pearl when, in a skirmish in the Santa Cruz islands, he was fatally wounded by a poisoned arrow
