Pearson, Captain), 26 x 23mm, hallmarked Birmingham 1899, 9ct, 6.11g; Birmingham District & Counties Football Association Charity Cup, 1905, a gold and enamel badge by Vaughton, named (Aston Villa F.C., J.F. Pearson), 36 x 28mm, hallmarked Birmingham 1906, 9ct, 14.05g; West Bromwich Charity Football Association, a gold-plated silver badge by Vaughton, named (J.F. Pearson, Capt), 37 x 28mm [3]. Joseph Frank ‘Joe’ Pearson (1877-1946), b. Brierly Hill, signed for Aston Villa from Dudley F.C. in August 1900, playing in 117 games between then and May 1908 as a wing-half and was part of the the victorious side in the 1905 F.A. Cup Final. Retiring with a knee injury, he subsequently became a football league referee and was a linesman in the England v Scotland international in 1922. He was appointed head of the elementary school at Pensnett before World War I and subsequently head of Wollaston Church of England School in 1919, remaining in post until his retirement in 1941. He was mayor of Stourbridge from 1941-3
