India General Service 1854-95, 1 clasp, Chin-Lushai 1889-90 (1477 Pte. W. Cooper 1st. Bn. Ches. R.) darkly toned, nearly extremely fine £240-280

William Cooper was born in 1867 and attested for the Cheshire Regiment on 29 January 1885, having previously served with the 5th (Militia) Battalion. Posted to the 1st Battalion, he served in the Mediterranean and Egypt, before going to Burma in November 1887, where he was present, as part of the Burma Column under Brigadier-General W. P. Symons, during operations against the Chin tribe, November 1889 to April 1890. Returning home in November 1892, he transferred to the Army Reserve the following month, and was discharged on 28 January 1897, after 12 years’ service.
