Egypt and Sudan 1882-89, dated reverse, no clasp (F. Starling. A.B. H.M.S. “Achilles”) heavy edge bruising, therefore good fine £60-80

Frank Starling was born on 7 May 1860 at St. Margaret’s, London, and joined the Royal Navy as a Boy 2nd Class on 27 May 1875, serving in H.M.S. Impregnable. Advanced Ordinary Seaman, serving in H.M.S. Minotaur, 7 May 1878, he transferred to H.M.S. Achilles on 4 September 1880, and was promoted Able Seaman on 27 June 1881. He served during operations on and off the coast of Egypt, 11 July to 14 September 1882, before transferring to H.M.S. Cambridge on 3 December 1882. Shore pensioned on 5 May 1898, he subsequently joined the Royal Fleet Reserve, and was discharged dead on 21 December 1909.
