India General Service 1854-95, 1 clasp, Jowaki 1877-8 (Surgeon N. J. Halpin, Bengal Medical Dept.), initials neatly re-engraved, good very fine £300-400
Nicholas John Halpin was born on 12 September 1851. He qualified as a Surgeon at Trinity College, Dublin in 1876; received his doctorate in 1879; and was appointed a Licentiate of the King and Queen’s College of Physicians in 1881. He served as a Surgeon on the Bengal Establishment during the Jowaki campaign of 1877-78, and was killed as a result of a fall from his horse at Arrah, India, on 21 October 1882.
