Miscellaneous, Coal Mining, Bank Land Colliery, a copper ticket, 1760, arms of the Pickering family, rev. gr cypher, date below, 26mm (D & W 283/10; Mitchiner 5354; cf. Noble II, 443). One side weak, otherwise about very fine (£40-50)

Attributed to Bedworth, Warwickshire, by W.J. Davis in 1895, although by 1922 Davis and Arthur Waters had changed their minds, preferring the eastern section of Workington Colliery, Cumberland. Mitchiner prefers Davis’ original placing
