Surgeon Vice-Admiral Sir Sheldon Francis Dudley, KCB, OBE, MD, FRCP, FRCS (1884-1956); educ. Merchant Taylor’s School and Medical School, St Thomas’s Hospital; joined Royal Navy 1906 and served in the Mediterranean and China stations; bacteriology specialist; served at RN Hospital, Chatham, the RNAS at Dunkirk and aboard HM Hospital Ship Agadir in Great War; awarded the Duncan and Salacca (cf. MJP p.102) medals by the London School of Tropical Medicine, 1921; professor of pathology to the RN Medical School, Greenwich; chief medical officer in charge of the RN Hospital, Chatham, 1938-41; honorary physician to George VI, 1939-46; in charge of RN Hospital, Bermuda; retired to live in Leamington Spa.
