A Great War 1918 ‘Western Front’ M.M. awarded to Private W. Hughes, South Lancashire Regiment, for engaging with two others an advance party of enemy storm-troops, in which they succeeded in killing two officers and taking two other ranks prisoner

M.M. London Gazette 7 October 1918.
The Recommendation, dated 17 April 1918, states: ‘Rifleman Hughes is strongly recommended for excellent work and devotion to duty during the last tour in the line, and especially for his work during the counter-attack on the 10th April against a company of enemy storm-troops. He went out with two others and succeeded in engaging with the enemy’s advance party until the counter-attack developed, taking two prisoners and killing two officers.’

W. Hughes served with the 1st/5th Battalion, South Lancashire Regiment during the Great War on the Western Front, and was presented with his Military Medal on 10 July 1918.
