Edwin Alderson Day was born in Norfolk on 22 October 1865 and was appointed Midshipman on 24 June 1881. He served in this capacity in H.M.S. Northumberland during the Egyptian campaign of 1882, and was promoted Sub-Lieutenant on 24 June 1885, and Lieutenant on 1 October 1888. He served in H.M.S. Rambler during operations in the Boer War November 1899 to June 1900, before transferring to H.M. Coast Guard as Inspecting Officer of Great Yarmouth on 24 October 1903. He retired with the rank of Commander on 22 October 1910, before subsequently serving during the Great War in a special service capacity in H.M.S. President (not entitled to any Great War campaign medals). He died on 15 March 1940.
