Lennox George Rodney was born at Boulogne on 10 December 1837, son of Captain John Rodney, R.N., eldest son of the famous Admiral Lord Rodney, K.B., hero of the battle of the Saintes. He was appointed 2nd Lieutenant in the Royal Marine Light Infantry on 25 September 1854, becoming 1st Lieutenant on 4 June 1856. Served with the Baltic Fleet on board H.M. Ships Royal George and Blenheim, and afterwards served afloat in Hannibal; Captain, 13 September 1866; Major, 1 April 1878; retired, Hon. Lieutenant-Colonel, 26 August 1880. Subsequently a J.P. for Hampshire, Major Rodney died at West Kirby, Chester, on 6 August 1913.
