China 1842 (Willam Meadus [sic], Royal Marines.) with replacement straight bar suspension, pawn broker’s mark in obverse field, edge bruise, very fine £400-500
William Meades was born in Hailsworthy, Dorset, in 1817, and attested for the Royal Marines at 4 September 1838. He served as a Marine with H.M.S. Wellesley, from 31 January 1840 until 6 August 1842, and was discharged on 26 September 1859, after 21 years and 23 days’ service. Douglas-Morris records that his medal was sent to Lieutenant-Colonel Jones at Portsmouth, 25 September 1846, for presentation.
