Frederick Saunders was born in Deptford, London, and attested for the King’s Royal Rifle Corps. He served with the 8th Battalion, as part of 14th Division, during the Great War, and was killed in action on the Western Front on 3 May 1917. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Arras Memorial, France.

Herbert G. Smith, a native of Kingsclere, Newbury, Berkshire, attested for the King’s Royal Rifle Corps at Newbury, and served with the 8th Battalion, as part of 14th Division, during the Great War on the Western Front from 12 September 1915. He was killed in action at Loos on 11 October 1915, and is buried in New Irish Farm Cemetery, Belgium.

George Hewitt, a native of Marylebone, London, attested for the King’s Royal Rifle Corps at Paddington, London, on 26 May 1915, and served with the 9th Battalion, as part of 14th Division, during the Great War on the Western Front from 30 September 1915. He was killed in action during the attack on Delville Wood during the Battle of the Somme on 24 August 1916, on which day the battalion suffered 289 casualties. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, France.

Percy Bass, a native of Brixton, London, attested for the King’s Royal Rifle Corps and served with the 10th Battalion during the Great War. He was killed in action on the Ypres Salient on 20 March 1916, and is buried in Essex Farm Cemetery, Belgium.
