David Malone was born in 1856 and attested for the 13th (Prince Albert’s Light Infantry) Regiment of Foot at Downpatrick on 29 June 1874, and served with the 1st Battalion in South Africa in Cape Colony, Natal, Transvaal, and Zululand from 1875-79. He transferred to the Army Reserve on 1 July 1880, and was discharged on 28 June 1866, after 12 years’ service.
