Thomas Morris was born in Oswestry, Shropshire, in 1869 and attested for the Manchester Regiment on 27 September 1893, having previously served in the 3rd Battalion Shropshire Light Infantry. He served with the 2nd Battalion in India from 18 December 1895 until 30 November 1897; and with the 1st Battalion in South Africa during the Boer War from 23 August 1899 until 5 September 1902 (also entitled to a King’s South Africa Medal with two clasps). Promoted Corporal on 3 June 1902, he transferred to the Army Reserve on 28 December of that year, and was discharged on 26 September 1905, after 12 years’ service.

Following the outbreak of the Great War, Morris re-enlisted for service in the King’s Shropshire Light Infantry on 26 July 1915, and served with them and the Labour Corps during the Great War, being demobilized on 9 February 1919. He died at Oswestry on 17 May 1939.
