India General Service 1908-35, 1 clasp, Afghanistan N.W.F. 1919 (Capt. T. Godley. R.A.S.C.) in named card box of issue with outer envelope, extremely fine £80-120
Thomas Godley was born in Bolton, Lancashire, on 29 April 1893, and attested for the Loyal North Lancashire Regiment. He served with the 7th Battalion during the Great War on the Western Front in the ranks from 17 July 1915, and was advanced to Lance-Sergeant. Posted to an Officer Cadet battalion on 9 February 1917, he was commissioned Second Lieutenant in the King’s Own Royal Lancaster Regiment on 30 May 1917. Posted to India in July 1917, he was promoted Lieutenant on 30 November 1918, and served during the Third Afghan War as Acting Captain and Workshop Officer to 692 Company, Royal Army Service Corps at Peshawar. He relinquished his commission, retaining the rank of Lieutenant, on 18 December 1919.
