Memorial Plaque (2) (William Russell Edmonds; Thomas Woods) good very fine (2) £100-140
William Russell Edmonds, 12th Battalion, South Wales Borderers, was killed in action on 15 June 1916, in the Calonne sector while preparing for the Somme. He was the first man of the 12th Battalion to be killed in France, as confirmed by the regimental history:
‘The four days’ tour was full of interest and value for the new hands, but it cost the 12th two men killed, Private Edmonds being the first in the battalion to fall, and half a dozen wounded.’
