Auction Catalogue
Boer War, a frosted gilt and glazed medal set within gold rim, Queen enthroned, soldiers around, rev. soldiers firing at Boers across a ravine, 27mm (BHM 3674 [only recorded in Æ]); together with an example in copper, 28mm, gold rim 9ct., Birmingham hallmark, maker A. Bros, suspension loop and ring [2]. Extremely fine and very rare (£70-100)
BHM gives the medal maker simply as A.B. It is possible, though unlikely, that the glazed medal is made of gold; more likely it is made up of two separate specimens in order to fill the broad rim
