Guernsey, Daniel De Lisle Brock, silver laudatory medal by T. Halliday, 1835, bust facing three-quarters left, rev. inscription within wreath, arms of Guernsey above, 51mm (BHM 1684; E 1281; cf. McCammon Sale, lot 288). Pierced at top and pinhole on edge for suspension, some rim knocks, otherwise very fine, rare in silver (£70-90)
De Lisle Brock (1762-1842) was appointed Jurat of the royal court of Guernsey in 1798 and Bailiff in 1821. He led a deputation to London to protest against a Bill which sought to deprive the Channel Islands of their right to export corn to England without having to pay duty. The Bill was withdrawn and De Lisle Brock voted a service of plate by the States of Jersey and a portrait by the States of Guernsey. This medal was struck in commemoration of his successful protest
