Wellington and Waterloo Interest, signed receipt for pay for ‘Staff on the Continent’, in the name of ‘His Grace the Duke of Wellington as Field Marshal with 6 Aides de Camp. 61 Days Pay From 25th April to 24th June 1815... at the rate of £19.5.9 per Day... the Sum of One Thousand One Hundred and Seventy Six Pounds, Ten Shillings and Nine Pence’, signed ‘Wellington’ and dated Paris 13th August 1815, in card mount, central fold, otherwise extremely good condition and very rare £300-500
Covering the period of the Battle of Waterloo, this receipt for the Duke of Wellington’s pay as Field Marshal was issued by ‘the Right Honourable the Pay-Master General of His Majesty’s Land Forces, by the hands of William Purdue Smith, Esqr. Deputy Pay-Master General to the Forces serving in the Low Countries’, ‘and directed to the said William Purdue Smith Esqr., for which I [Wellington] have given three Receipts of the same Tenor and Date.’
