D.C.M. recommendation dated 15 January 1855.
Thomas Gow was born in Perth, Scotland, and attested for service with the 79th Highlanders at Dundee in December 1839. He served with the Regiment in the Crimea, and advanced to Corporal in September 1855, and to Sergeant in March of the following year. Gow also served with the Regiment during the Indian Mutiny, before being discharged 8 January 1861, having served 21 years and 39 days with the Colours.
