Thomas Hughes was born in Meath, Ireland, and enlisted into the 41st Foot on 18 May 1825, at Naas, County Kildare, a labourer by trade. He arrived in India at Madras on 19 June 1826. He was promoted to Corporal on 20 April 1841, and to Sergeant on 29 March 1842, but died from unknown causes at Quetta on 9 April 1842.
