1914 Star (4711 Pte. F. G. Nicolls [sic]. 15/Hrs.) nearly extremely fine £80-120

Frederick George Nicholls was born in Merton, Oxfordshire, and attested for the 15th (King’s) Hussars at Warwick. A pre-War regular, he was called up from the Reserve on the outbreak of the Great War, and served with the 15th Hussars on the Western Front from 16 August 1914. He was wounded during the retreat from Mons with a dislocated shoulder as a result of his horse being shot from under him, and was invalided home. Recovering, he subsequently transferred to the 6th Battalion, Wiltshire Regiment, and was killed in action on the Western Front near Ribecourt on 10 January 1918. He is buried in Ribecourt British Cemetery, France.
