Sher Mohammed served during the Great War as a Havildar Salutri (Veterinary Sergeant) in the Mountain Battery Hong Kong and Singapore Royal Garrison Artillery, which formed part of the Imperial Camel Corps, in the Egyptian theatre of War from 29 November 1915. For his gallantry and distinguished service during the 2nd Battle of Gaza he was Mentioned in Despatches (London Gazette 16 January 1918).
