Anduas Moir was born in South Shields, Co. Durham, in 1880 and attested for the Imperial Yeomanry at Newcastle-upon-Tyne on 19 February 1901. He served with the 100th (Northumberland) Company, 5th Battalion Imperial Yeomanry in South Africa during the Boer War from 15 March 1901 to 8 September 1902, and was discharged at Aldershot on 15 September 1902, after 1 year and 209 days’ service.
