Arthur Murray was born in Glasgow in 1878 and attested for the Imperial Yeomanry at Glasgow on 28 February 1901. He served with the 107th (Lanarkshire) Company, 6th Battalion Imperial Yeomanry in South Africa during the Boer War from 15 March 1901 to 4 August 1902, and was discharged at Aldershot on 11 August 1902, after 1 year and 165 days’ service.
