Francis E. Woods attested for the Imperial Yeomanry Scouts in Oldham, Lancashire, and served with them in South Africa during the Boer War, being taken Prisoner of War at Roodeval on 7 June 1900. Released, he was discharged on the disbandment of the Corps on 15 August 1900, after 155 days’ service.
