Horace Charles Sloper attested for the Yorkshire Hussars and served with them during the Great War on the Western Front from 10 April 1915. Commissioned temporary Second Lieutenant, 3rd Reserve Regiment of Cavalry, on 8 July 1917, he transferred to the Indian Army on 2 January 1918. Promoted Lieutenant on 8 April 1919, he served with the 2-9th Jat Regiment during operations in Waziristan 1921-24, before transferring to the West Yorkshire Regiment (Supplementary Reserve) on 3 January 1925. He joined the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve as a Sub-Lieutenant on 11 October 1943, and was posted to H.M.S. Monster, a combined operations base at Fortrose, Scotland. Promoted Lieutenant on 26 October 1943, he was released from Naval Service on 12 September 1945.
