Norman Ellis MacFarlane was born on 24 April 1900 and joined the Royal Canadian Mounted Police at Edmonton, Alberta, on 11 November 1925. He was promoted Corporal on 1 October 1935 and Sergeant on 1 April 1943, and was awarded his Long Service and Good Conduct Medal on 1 April 1946. He retired on 31 July 1949, but re-engaged as a Special Constable in 1951. He received the Bronze Clasp to his Long Service Medal on 1 January 1956; and the Silver Clasp on 23 October 1957. He retired for the last time on 31 December 1959, and died at Victoria, British Columbia, on 8 July 1985.
