Richard Smeal served with the 91st (Argyllshire) Highlanders in Captain Robert McDonald’s No. 5 Company during the Waterloo Campaign, 16-18 June 1815; at the Battle of Waterloo the 91st Highlanders were part of Lieutenant-General Sir Charles Colville’s No. 4 Division, and suffered relatively few casualties, with four officers and one other rank killed; six other ranks wounded; and two officers missing.
